Ravenna Grass - Saccharum ravennae
Ravenna Grass is another ornamental grass that grows well in Utah! It is huge - 8 or 9 feet tall - and very dramatic in the fall. It is sometimes called "hardy Pampas grass". This is confusing, however, because it is not Pampas grass at all. It is taller and has different flowers. Plant Ravenna Grass in full sun where it has plenty of room - it will get to be 5 feet in diameter! The flowers come up in late summer and fall and will remain through the winter. It is waterwise, requiring a good soaking once a week during July and August.

I would like to know where I can find Ravenna Grass in Utah so that I can purchase it to grow here.
ReplyDeleteWestern Garden Center and Millcreek Gardens both have good selections of ornamental grasses. They should have Revenna Grass.
